Lonicera japonica ‘Horwood Gem’ is a cultivated Japanese honeysuckle selected for its exceptional foliage, strong growth, and classic honeysuckle fragrance. Supplied in a 3-litre nursery container, this plant is well established and ready to grow quickly once planted into the garden or a large outdoor pot. It is a semi-evergreen climber, meaning it retains much of its foliage throughout winter, providing colour, texture, and garden structure for most of the year.
This variety is best known for its spectacular variegated leaves. Each leaf is rich green, intricately marbled and veined with bright golden yellow, giving the entire plant a luminous, sunlit appearance. Even when not in flower, ‘Horwood Gem’ acts as a decorative feature plant, brightening shaded corners, fences, and walls with its glowing foliage. This makes it particularly valuable for year-round garden interest.
Lonicera japonica ‘Horwood Gem’ grows to approximately 4–6 metres in height with a spread of around 1.5–2 metres when trained on supports. Supplied in a 3-litre container measuring approximately 18–20 cm in height and diameter, it establishes quickly once planted. The tubular flowers measure around 3–5 cm long and are produced in clusters from midsummer into autumn. The semi-evergreen foliage forms a dense, leafy covering, making it ideal for vertical planting, decorative screening, and brightening fences, walls, pergolas, and trellises.
